When you’ve spent a lot of time and money making sure that your new bathroom looks perfect, you’re going to want to make sure it stays looking that for as long as possible. Also, given how much we all use our bathrooms, they can get dirty quickly. Here, we’ll run through some of the ways you can keep your bathroom clean and looking like new.
What can stop your bathroom from looking brand new
As we rely on our bathrooms to keep us clean, they get a lot of use. Equally, with all the water, steam, and grime, it’s a room than can easily become home to bacteria, fungus, and unwanted odours. These are the same things that will take the shine off your bathroom – easily done with splashes on the mirror or watermarks on your taps. Your bathroom basin is one of the other common places where the mess starts to show quickly with the toothpaste and soap marks.
It can also be the types of items that you store in your bathroom that can cause small issues that you won’t be aware of.
Ways to keep your bathroom looking clean and new
Thankfully, these are quick and simple: no elaborate, time-consuming chores that you won’t have time for!
- Keep a squeegee in your shower – wiping down the shower walls once you’ve finished with your shower is a great way of getting rid of excess water or soap so you can avoid getting marks on them. If you have tiles and want to give them a more thorough clean, we have some other tips for you to do that.
- Spray shower walls and doors with Rainex – this can work instead of, or as well as, the squeegee. It’s a product that you only need to spray once and it lasts for ages. It works by making the shower spray slide down the walls as soon as it hits. You will still need to properly clean your shower: the rainex will simply remove watermarks and minimise damp. We also need to point out that this product was originally designed for car window screens so check to make sure that using it won’t harm any of your bathroom fittings. If in doubt, speak to us.
- Ventilate your bathroom as much as you can – this includes opening windows, leaving doors open (even a bit), and turning on your extraction fan while you shower. Consider also moving your towels out of the bathroom while they dry or, at the least, make sure they are spread out. The same is true of shower curtains. If you have them, pull them across so they can dry out.
- Clean your bathroom fan – to help make your fan effective as ventilating the space, make sure you give it a vacuum to stop it from getting filled with dust.
- Try some daily cleaning – this can be as simple as having a quick wipe around while you’re brushing your teeth. This works especially well on basins and taps and, if you can do this, you’ll walk into a sparkling bathroom that makes you feel happy when you look at it.
- Regularly empty your bin – it’s a small thing but full, overflowing bins create a more cluttered, messy feeling in a room. Emptying the bins regularly will help create a calmer, more together feel to the space.
- Wash any mats frequently – if you have bath mats, make sure to grab them and throw them in the wash once a week. That’ll avoid them getting too damp or dirty, which can be the cause of unpleasant odours.
- Minimise the clutter – clutter is one of those things that distract your attention away from the other elements in a room. So, in your bathroom consider your storage needs: find a solution that’ll provide enough space to keep everything tidy. Make sure you then keep things back in place e.g., hang up towels instead of dropping them on the floor.
Here’s a quick reminder for you. Most manufacturers of bathroom goods will recommend that you only use warm, soapy water to clean. This is because some cleaning products contain harsh or abrasive chemicals, which can then harm your bath, basin, sink, shower, or taps. You definitely don’t want this with a new bathroom so make sure to read the manufacturer guidance along with the list of ingredients in your cleaning product.
